Considering that he won six majority mandates from Canadians as their first and founding Prime Minister, it won’t be a surprise to discover that Sir John A. Macdonald was very much a political innovator. While out of office between 1873 and 1878, Sir John A. pioneered the "political picnic." These inclusive political events brought Canadians together and took their party leader directly to the people. Politicians in other nations took notice and a new style of campaigning was born.
